Dance should be fun! We provide quality dance instruction with up-to-date techniques in a supportive and nurturing environment. Children should not be lost in the crowd—that’s why we maintain an 8-1 student-teacher ratio and provide individual attention to every student who comes through our doors. Every age and skill level is welcome at DSSD, where we help students develop important skills on and off the stage like self-assurance, teamwork and a sense of self-discipline. Most importantly, we make dance FUN!
A second generation instructor, Denise has been teaching children to dance for more than 30 years. After studying under her mother, a former Rockette and Maryland dance institution—the accomplished Miriam Sellers, Denise went on to start her own studio, where she has had the opportunity to teach thousands of students in the area.
Denise has choreographed for local and national advertising campaigns. Many of her dancers have won local and national competitions, gone on to high school and college dance teams and even started studios of their own all over the country.
An expert in childhood development, Denise has created a curriculum to meet the emotional and physical developmental needs of her students. She and her staff attend conferences regularly to stay abreast of that latest teaching styles and techniques, so your child can get the most cutting edge dance education available.
A lifelong student of Denise’s, Jennifer has been dancing since she could walk. An accomplished dancer, Jennifer has danced in numerous competitions, worked with local dance teams, performed on local and national television, and traveled around the country to dance.
Today, Jennifer is a favorite of students and parents alike. After teaching for nearly 20 years and studying early childhood development, Jennifer’s classes are tailored to meet her students’ specific needs. Though skilled in many genres of dance, Jennifer specializes in jazz, tap, lyrical and creative movement.
Vicky has danced under Denise since the age of three. While studying at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Vicky worked with various organizations in D.C. bringing dance education to the area’s underserved youth. She is trained in arts integration with the MCPS curriculum and a registered teaching artist with the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.
After studying under Denise for 15 years, where she competed in various regional competitions and danced with her high school dance team, Lauren went on to West Virginia University, where she worked with her sorority’s dance team to choreograph winning routines. After studying at WVU, Lauren returned to Denise to teach her specialties- jazz, tap, kick and pom.
